2025 LPS Pump Priming Preservation Grants

Oatlands Historic House and Gardens. This pump-priming preservation grant is to assist in the preservation of a well-loved canine Statuary, “Rusty” in the historic gardens.

Bluemont Academy – The Friends of Bluemont are undertaking the next phase of their long-time restoration effort of the 200-year-old Bluemont Academy, Loudoun’s second oldest still-standing educational structure. The Friends of Bluemont (Bluemont Heritage) is dedicated to preserving the
memories, documents, artifacts, and structures of Bluemont’s past, ensuring they are passed down for future generations to appreciate and protect.
Grant: $2,500

Solon Cemetery in Middleburg is seeking a grant to stabilize the cemetery entrance gate and repair the office/maintenance building just inside the gate. Solon Cemetery is Middleburg’s historic black cemetery that is treasured by the local community.

Thomas Balch Library of History & Genealogy is receiving a grant to
help with restoration of an historic desk and five Windsor chairs original to the library’s 1922 founding. Balch, run by the Town of Leesburg, serves as Loudoun’s history library and works to promote interest in local history by exhibits, programs and its voluminous collection.

The VIRGINIA PIEDMONT HERITAGE AREA will be helped with a grant to reprint Raised from Obscurity: A Driving Tour of the Cavalry Battles of Aldie, Middleburg, and Upperville June 17-21, 1863. Loudoun’s largest Civil War battlefield, battle sites preserved at Aldie, Middleburg, and Upperville by the NOVA Parks and Fauquier County Parks and Rec all distribute this publication. It is the primary guide for visitors. The Virginia Piedmont Heritage
Area received a grant from the National Park Service under the American Battlefield Protection Program in 2012 to study these battlefields and promote their preservation. Civil War historian Kevin Pawlak wrote the guide in 2017 as a part of this effort. The Loudoun Preservation Society funded the original print. The Virginia Piedmont Heritage Area promotes preservation through
education in a five-county area of the Piedmont including Loudoun.
